Llegaste Tu

El deseo entró en mi ser como un atardecer

¿Dónde está?

¿Dónde está?

Esa soledad que intentó matarme

Allí, allí, desapareció

Cuando llegaste, mi amor

Cuando viniste con esa sonrisa

Viniste y tocaste mi corazón, despertandolo, descongelandolo a cabo

Y yo no puedo evitarlo

Es una lucha que sigo perdiendo

Entonces has venido y con una sola mirada

Mi corazón está en un rugido hasta

Atrapado lejos como en un trance

Llegaste … por fin llegaste!

deseo2

Desire came into my being like a sunset

Where is it?

Where is it?

That loneliness that tried to kill me

There, there, it vanished

When you came, my love

When you came with that smile

You came and you touched my heart; awakening, thawing it out

And I can not help myself

It’s a fight that I keep losing

Then you came and  with one glance

My heart’s in an up roar

Caught away as in a trance

You came … you finally came you!

FOX and HOUND

Dear readers I normally don’t publish posts with profanity in them. Please excuse me as I don’t aim to offend anyone of you with this post. At times decent, clean words will fail us and the more appropriate word needed to express the intensity of the emotion will be a swear word. Whether you agree or not makes no difference. Thanks for your understanding

FOX and HOUND

They met as children

When their universe was new

She held the stars

In her deep-set eyes

She knew nothing of meanness and lies

The fox and hound

These two grew and grew

A friendship formed

From 2 seeds planted in the ground

The years went on

Characters were set in place

While she played with dolls and lace

He’d take a thousand beatings in his face

They pledged a friendship’s love

He said he’d forever have her back

They pledged a friendship’s love

Promised he would never slack

And she trusted the fox

With her very life she did

Threw caution to the seven winds

Only to end up in a box

The one who pledged to have her back

Was  nowhere to be found

That night the predator came

He did not stop him

He did worse than doing nothing

He took his turn in his best friend‘s rape.

And my heart weeps with hers

And my heart aches with hers

For how can a mother have stopped this?

The rape of her own child

And justice will do nothing

Not a fucking thing will be done

For all the laws men write

Are all stacked up against her

The laws of this land are perverse

Everything is ass backward

Progress travels in reverse

For you see the laws say,” She asked for it.”

And justice will do nothing

Not a fucking thing will be done

For all the laws men write

Are designed to undermine her

You didn’t just rape my child

You stole from all of us

You violated our way of life

Run like hell before God takes yours

SMALL IS THE NEW BIG!

Do you ever feel small and that what you do seems insignificant? I sure do from time to time. I started The Henderson Poets, a group that meets on Tuesday evenings at The Coffee House close to my home. We are small in number but that does not matter one iota to me. People from all walks of life show up. Some times 15 or more people show up, other times it’s less. But I keep plugging on and do you know why? Because I believe what I’m doing matters! We live in a society where everyone is always number crunching. We measure success by the number of books we sold or the numbers in our bank account and even our number of friends on Facebook. Did you ever stop to consider that small is the new big? What if me showing up at the Coffee House every Tuesday night is just to touch one other soul?

A few weeks ago I invited a very nice man to join us. He said he writes poetry but he had never shared before.  Last night he came and shared poems he wrote  during what seems to have been a traumatic divorce. He moved all of us because as he read, he wept openly. Dear readers, that is why I LOVE what I do. I believe poetry is meant to be performed live. A dear friend of mine said to me upon our first meeting,” Our words are our life.” How true that is! How amazing it is and an honor to have the chance to give other poets a platform from which they can come and bare their souls to us. We all benefit when a soul reaches out to touch us with their light.

So next time you think what you do is not important consider that  maybe your presence in some one’s life might be the one thing that is keeping that person alive. The work you do no matter how menial in your eyes, maybe some one else’s miracle and moment of joy. Take your eyes off the numbers and value what you do because really, you’re the only one capable of doing what you do. What you do and who you are is irreplaceable..think on that!

WORD PICTURE #4

What is life for if you can’t enjoy yourself? Why has religion crushed all that is good in this life? Why do you allow yourself to be led by all the shoulds and ought-not-to’s they rammed down our throats when we didn’t know any better.

Todos dejamos trozos de nuestras almas  con otros, en la esperanza que no nos lleguen hacer el mal. We all leave bits of our souls with others in the hopes that they won’t harm us. That’s a life truly lived; when you aren’t afraid of getting hurt. When you know that the wounds left by others are now a warrior’s scars.

From Classmate to Friend in an Instant

Have you ever wondered how some one you met in high school because you happened to share a class together 25 years ago, can within an instant become a true friend? I met Tammy in my senior year and we had Yearbook class together. I was aware of her and vice-versa. The teen years are a time of  self involvement, I have 3 teens and I see this first hand everyday. I knew Tammy was a nice girl back then. She played soccer and she was the athletic type. Beyond that, I couldn’t tell you anything else because we never hung out.

When I signed up for a Facebook account, I friended Tammy because she was my classmate and we hadn’t talked much since then. Now that my book, Salsa! The Taste of Life is in the publishing process, I contacted Tammy because she is a writer and I needed her to review my book. Do you know how difficult it is to get someone to write a few simple lines about your book? It is TOUGH! I asked Tammy and she said yes right away.Today I received her review and I was blown away by her personal comments. By the way, I can’t wait for you to read the review that will be on the book’s back cover:)

We spoke again on the phone this afternoon and I realized I had just made a life long friend. Tammy and I chatted as if we had never stopped being in that Yearbook class together. I am always amazed at how the most unexpected people can come through for you when you really need them to; and opposite of that is when you count on others that you really trust will be there and they just aren’t.

Tammy, this post is for you! I look forward to reciprocating the same time and effort when it’s time for your book to be published. What a truly great friend you are! 🙂
