Canned Anything Sucks

Canned prayers are like canned potato chips, canned soup or any kind of canned food. Canned food lacks vital nutrients necessary to sustaining our bodies. When we pray, God wants to hear each of our own distinct spirits; our spirit has its own unique voice. When your child asks you for something,,you hear their own unique voice. So why do religious people recite their religious prayers and incantations over and over? God doesn’t want canned voices that all sound the same  millennia  after millennia. Remember the old sit-coms ? You hear canned laughter in the back ground right? That means those voices we hear in those old TV shows are probably coming from dead people. We need fresh, un-canned expressions TODAY, not  from the past.

The disciples learned to pray from their Teacher. He didn’t tell them to recite The Lord’s prayer ; that was just a prayer manual, one they could follow and learn how to approach the King . Certainly not to say the same words over and over. Oh how religion wants everyone to be a Pringle’s Potato chip: All the same shape, same taste, all fit neatly together stacked in a metal can.. I believe heaven and its citizens crave to hear each unique voice on earth.

Unique self expression is the most powerful weapon a person can use. Your own voices unleashes things into the atmosphere and sets things in motion in the universe. Not one star is the same. Not one snow flake is the same. So why do people try so hard to be like some one else? Even our brains are wired differently. No 2 people on planet earth think exactly the same. So it’s reasonable that we’re all different voices  and each one of us must utter what is in our hearts to set things in motion. The Bible is not a here is what to say to God type of book. It goes beyond that. It’s a how to approach heaven using your own voice to unlock what is yours through the power of your own distinct expression. Heaven remains locked up when no one dares to step forward to use their own voice.

Martin Luther set the religious system upside down by nailing his own unique expression to the door of the established church. The whole universe was in an uproar when Galileo defied religion’s rules that dictated how the universe runs. Where are The Martin Luthers and Galileos of our time? Stand up and be heard if you’re one of them!!

” The Bible teaches how to get to heaven not how the heavens go.” -Galileo

365 Snap Shots of Life: Day 123

I believe in the power of prayer. Do you? I have been praying over the years, for my uncle in whose home I grew up in. Praying for him lead me to forgive him for having failed me like he did during the years when I lived with him. Praying for him helped me see him as 100% human, thereby helping me see him as flawed and frail as me. Praying for him changed me and all I have left of him now are the few good memories of those years.  A few years back I found out he had prostate cancer. Well, I kept praying for his healing and even though I never heard any news of him, I persisted in praying for him. Today I was talking to a good friend of mine and she told me she had recently heard that he was now a religious fanatic. Well at first I chuckled and then I remembered that when I found faith in Christ and started walking my faith journey,  people said the same thing about me.. So I realized that my uncle has found faith in God and that my many years of praying for him DID indeed pay off!

If you have been praying for someone or some thing, NEVER stop. I tell you the truth, God DOES answer prayer and the petitions of the righteous avail MUCH!

Sheepish Sheep

people are strange
when you’re a stranger
faces look ugly
when you’re alone – “People are Strange“- Echo and the Bunnymen

People are strange, I have to agree with the lyrics I posted above. I recently attended a church picnic  and there is one thing I do on purpose whenever I go to social functions of this type; I completely avoid the pastors, I go as far as not even making eye contact with them.  Hold on before you go on and think it weird and maybe even a bit anti-social of me. Here’s why I behave in such a different manner. I always see people hanging around the pastors and expecting them to be Jesus 24/7. Consider this: Could it be pastors show up to enjoy the food and revelry just like everybody else? Some people just don’t understand that a pastor cannot always be in the Spirit; God‘s leaders have needs too!

A long time a go , when I was new to the things of God and to the ways of church, one evening I received a very interesting and unexpected phone call, from the pastor’s wife from the church I was regularly attending. She said she was calling to thank me. I was ransacking my brain trying to figure out what I had done for this woman since we hardly spoke to each other. Then she continued to say that she was thanking me for not bleeding the ministry. WOW! I had never heard such words. She explained that people like my husband and I were a joy for any ministry to have  around because we weren’t always calling on them for help.  She thanked me once more and then she hung up.Those few words blew me away because even as a new Believer, I always knew not to take advantage of those people God places in my life to bless me.  That brief conversation has stayed with me all these years later.

People: Stop being so selfish and understand that God’s leaders need you to bless them back to0 now and then. They are the ones who are up at all hours pacing the floor for you and covering you in prayer. They are the ones who freely give of their time and talents to feed and nurture you. They are the ones who study God’s word so you can have a fresh message each week. Some of them sacrifice a lot just for you! Next time you go to church, instead of wondering what does the good ‘ol pastor have for ME today? Why not go there and ask God to show you what YOU can do for the man of God? You know, sometimes all these people  need is a kind word of encouragement, a hug or maybe just a warm smile from you. Something that will show them that they are appreciated and cared for. When was the last time you prayed for your pastor and those in authority over you? They need just as much prayer as everybody else.

The way I see it,  pastors are some what like presidents; they have been put in charge of many things and they can not do it alone. They need the support of those they lead. Without our prayers our leaders suffer many attacks that could have easily been avoided had they been prayed for.

Now, I ‘ve seen some people in leadership positions who won’t let you bless them; whether they receive it or not is not your concern. Lots of times pride will keep them from accepting a blessing. Don’t worry, do it anyway and let The Boss deal with them 🙂

And the hands of Moses became heavy. And they took a stone and put it under him. And he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one from this and one from that side. And his hands were steady until the going of the sun.   Exodus 17:12

A Day of Prayer and Fasting

Image via Wikipedia
America was founded upon the prayers of its people. The Founding Fathers acknowledged God‘s power and that is why in The Declaration of Independence they included this statement: “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”
During the birthing of our country , Benjamin Franklin and George Washington would appeal  for daily prayers.
On October 6,1746 Reverend Johnathan French a pastor from New England set October 16 as a day of fasting and prayer throughout the province. Reverend French describes the events that followed: ” On this great emergency, and day of darkness and doubtful expectation, the 16th of October was observed as a day of fasting and prayer throughout the Province. And wonderful to relate, that very night God sent upon them a more dreadful storm than either of the former and completed their destruction. Some overset, some foundered , and a remnant only of this miserable fleet returned to France to carry the news. Thus New England stood still, and saw the salvation of God.”
These are just a few examples of the numerous times in U.S. history when God has intervened for our country because of the prayers of His people. Once again, God is calling on His people to assemble all over the U.S. A. and observe a day of prayer and fasting.
The Response. A call to prayer for a nation in crisis. August 6, 2011. On August 6, the nation will come together at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas for a solemn gathering of prayer and fasting for our country.
If we don’t do this for the future generations then who will?
