Lazarus Come Forth…

In honor of spring, I wrote this the other night at my Young Poets Revolution, poetry open mic night. Spring is one of my favorite seasons. HAPPY SPRING 2014 ALL!!!

Now is here
What are you gonna do?
NOW is what counts
STOP!
LOOK!
LISTEN!
Now is what’s alive
The past will drown
Suffocate-kill you
The past is dead
Let it GO!
The past is a ghost:
“Lazarus,come forth!”
He left his past
Inside his stinky tomb
The future is untold:
Uncertain
Unpromised
Unfulfilled
It’ll be here sooner than a blink
Why pine away for what was?
Why long for what’s unsure?
Put away your gadgets and look at who sits in front of you NOW!
Now matters a hell of a lot
Feel the sunshine, NOW!
Play in the rain, NOW!
Make love intensely, NOW!
Love all your kids, NOW!
Hug like crazy, NOW!
Don’t waste one single second hating
Don’t waste one single moment regretting and fretting
NOW you are needed
NOW you’re alive
Live for today and fuck all the rest!

Everyone’s scramblin’ around like rats on a sinking ship
Running to and fro waiting to catch the last crumbs from the rich man’s table
We are not the rats they’ve conditioned us to be
We were created to be so much more
And yet the current paradigm exists
That prison we’re all so desperately trying to flee- to break out of
And yet it persists
It’s like a fucking magnet that keeps pulling us back to what we’ve known
When is enough fucking enough??
I say enough is NOW!!
I can’t go on like this
I can’t go on like I’ve been
I must break out of this thought prison
Because I was made to have a higher existence
One without the entrapments of the current status quo
I am from a kingdom not of this world
This present kingdom everyone pursues is fading fast
This present kingdom collides with the New Kingdom which exists from of old
This present kingdom causes friction with The Upside Down Kingdom
We live in 2 kingdoms
At some point we all must choose one over the other
One will master you; the other, YOU master it
Choose this day in which kingdom you’ll be a subject or a slave
Choose wisely for your destiny depends on it.

Don’t fear your wild heart
Out of it come life’s finest treasures
Don’t fear your wild heart
It fuels your most intimate of passions
Don’t fear your wild heart
It makes you feel the highest and lowest compassion
Don’t fear your wild heart
It’s why you’re not numb
Don’t feel your wild heart
It feeds your wildest imaginations
Don’t fear your wild heart
In it,faith,hope and love thrive
Don’t fear your wild heart
It is the antithesis to all that your brain denies
Don’t fear your wild heart
It draws you away from the mundane
To soar higher and graze upon greener pastures
Don’t fear your wild heart
It makes you feel the sharpest of pain
It opens the door for you to change
Don’t fear your wild heart
It makes you feel love’s width ,depth, height and circumference

The most alive people
All posses wild hearts beating passionately, madly , boldly
The most alive people
Have all feared our wild hearts at some point
Then we awoke
After feeling like long dead corpses
We fell into a deep slumber
When we no longer followed our wild hearts
We succumbed to fear
Go on,put your hand to your chest
How fast does your heart beat?
Or can you barely pick up a pulse?

YOUNG POETS REVOLUTION (YPR)

Dear readers, 2014 has begun with a BIG BANG for me! I was able to start my poetry group again. Due to unfortunate set backs, I had to put that labor of love aside for all of 2013. If you knew about my group back in 2012, we called ourselves The Henderson Poets. Now we have assumed a new name: YOUNG POETS REVOLUTION (YPR). We meet Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm at, https://www.facebook.com/thecoffeehouseonwaterstreet , the same venue that used to host us as the Henderson Poets. Our mission at YPR: To discover fresh, new voices who have not been heard before or who are struggling to be heard. YPR is open to ALL age groups!. If you’re in our area, join my lovely co-host, Elena Isabel Da’Silva and me, as we present some amazingly talented local poets and musicians in Henderson,NV.
