THIS MOMENT

This moment I hear the wind outside slowly ushering in fall

Though the heat is still making its presence felt

Autumn is nipping at Summer’s heels

Summer is saying, ” I’m still here. I will dawdle and linger here a bit longer.”

Autumn, one known for not being abrasive

Gently blows in Summer’s ear

Caressing her sun- kissed cheeks

Tussling her golden tresses, saying,

” Take as long as you want my darling

I am not here to send you away as a discarded lover

I’m here to lighten your load, give you a break

Go now, your work of much producing and growing is done

Harvest draws nigh

Soon comes the bounty

Now rest from your labors

For Summer, you’re done.”

LONG BEFORE THE LIGHT

There is a smell and feel of dawn long before the light
Dawn smells like:
Lavender
An untraveled path
A rose about to bloom
A hot cup of steaming green tea

There is a smell and feel of dawn long before light
Dawn feels like:
A newborn’s breath on my cheek
My lover’s kiss on my eager lips
A hug from some one you have not embraced in a while
An unexpected smile…

WINTER OF WANT

Winter of want
Several seasons of this …
I am weary
I wake up daily
Put my nice smile back on
Yeah, gotta make sure everyone knows I’m ok
But inside
I am not
I am not ok with the needs
I am not ok with this winter of want
I am not ok with standing
I am a person of action
Lately my actions don’t seem to amount to much
I am not ok with laying down and taking it
FUCK!!!!!!
When does this winter of want end??
I close my eyes and I see myself running in fields of plenty
I see seeds I sowed long ago
Finally bringing forth their fruit
This is my only hope
In this long, weary winter of want

365 Snap Shots of Life: Day 207

evasantiago310's avatarEva Santiago

Good Morning! Today I will share a short poem I wrote for my book, Salsa! the Taste of Life. I keep saying it will be out soon, and just hang in there with me because I tell you, “birthing” a book IS a process!  Happy Wednesday and I hope you like my post for today! Life is too short, smile at a stranger, open the door for someone and call that friend you haven’t heard from in a while. Yes, it may be their turn to call you, but so what? Don’t keep score, call them anyway and make their day! 🙂

Words Are Swords

Words are swords

Some are sharp

And some are shrill—

As the sound of a drill.

It takes talents and skill,

To say the right words;

To bring life and encourage,

But never to kill.

Words are swords;

Double edged and ready…

Sea Glass

sea glass beachYou picked me up from an unfathomable collection of sea glass

Held me to the light

Pleased with my brilliance

As the sun shone through

My opaque hues

Became an iridescent array of countless shades of color

From sky blue to cobalt

From cotton candy pink to sizzling magenta

From mint to emerald

From lavender to amethyst

I mesmerized you…

For so many years you studied me

You remained a student of me

Yet never fully grasped the subject

You grew frustrated

With each failed test

So you set out to:

Dominate, control and master: ME

You figured if you mastered me you’d be able to break into my heart’s code

That vault that once held as much treasure as the ocean’s floor for you

You became angrier with each passing year

When I could not, would not, should not fear-you

So you became a battering ram

In your weak attempt of getting through to me

You failed too

Had you only considered for a split second

To just ask me

I would have gladly handed you over my secret code…

Will I Ever Know the Outer Fringes of You?

route66 route662 route663

Will I ever know the outer fringes of you?

Will I ever let you know mine?

What can be found in your out skirts?

I’ll tell you what you might find in mine…

A slow down sign or two

A proceed with caution sign too

I’ll only roll out the red carpet to welcome you into my inner city

IF and only when I find you  worthy

In my outer city limits you’ll see a cheap motel

For the lone traveler just passing through

Stay the night and no longer than that

You’ll also find a cheap diner

Where you  can eat on the go

You’ll find a gas station

One with several sun faded signs

Where gas is just 10 cents a gallon

I want you to hurry and fuel up

So you can leave as fast as you can.

Dying to Live, Loving to Die

What goes
Is what you let go
What stays is what you welcome
What flourishes
Is what you nurture
What dies
Is what you starve
What Fails
Is what you discouraged
What blooms
Is what you pruned
What is, is what you allowed
What is not, is what you dismissed
What you run away from
Is what will catch up with you
What you abandoned
Is what haunts you
What you refused to acknowledge
Is what will scream at you
In your loneliest of nights
The lie you told
Will tell on you
The truth you with held
Will annihilate you
The love you denied
Will embitter you
The hate you embraced
Will cripple you
You think you only die once?
Fools die stung by their own bitter gall
You think you only die once?
We’ve all been dying since the day we were born.

YOU HEARD MY SOUL

You heard my soul
My breath
My heart beat
My energy

I heard your soul
You baby sweet breath
Your tiny heart beat
Your new energy

The universe conspired
To line up our stars
To make sure all the glitter fell in all the right places
To make sure the constellations would align

You are here not here by happenstance
For I don’t believe in luck
Nor do I believe in chance or mere coincidence

You are here by some grand design
Bigger than both of us
I used to not believe in magic
But now I do
Magic is another word, a feeble attempt
To describe the mysteries of the universe
UNIVERSE:
One Poem
One Lyric
One Sonnet
One Line
One Ode

The universe let love in with:
One poem
One Lyric
One Sonnet
One Line
One Ode

Without love none of US would be here.

When in pain, I dig in the soil of my heart and I begin to sift through its debris. I begin to find shiny things , those I keep. I run across dull, opaque objects that I have to turn this way and that in order to grasp their full value. Sometimes those bits are just crap and I cast them aside. I don’t like to journal about the obvious things that are happening at the moment in my life. Why write about what I am currently living? It’s like watching the same movie for the 100th time and knowing how it’s going to end at minute two of the opening scene. I write when I am in pain because that is where I connect the most with myself.

The Sea Owns the Tide

The sea owns the tide
Just like the moon owns the night
Just like the sun owns the day
Just like the stars own the sapphire hued heavens
Just like the light owns the dark
Just like the darkness owns nothing
Just like nothing owns the abyss

The sea owns the tide
Just like the grave owns life
Just like life owns all that is everlasting
Because death is not final

The sea owns the tide
Just like hatred owns what’s bitter
Just like the honey comb owns sweet nectar
Just like life owns breath
Just like blood owns life-
For the life of a thing is in its blood

The sea owns the tide
Just like summer owns growth
Just like fall owns decay
Just like winter owns stillness
Just like spring owns new life

The sea owns the tide
There’s never a way of knowing
Which way it’s gonna turn
The tide is high
It’s time to move on
