THIS MOMENT

This moment I hear the wind outside slowly ushering in fall

Though the heat is still making its presence felt

Autumn is nipping at Summer’s heels

Summer is saying, ” I’m still here. I will dawdle and linger here a bit longer.”

Autumn, one known for not being abrasive

Gently blows in Summer’s ear

Caressing her sun- kissed cheeks

Tussling her golden tresses, saying,

” Take as long as you want my darling

I am not here to send you away as a discarded lover

I’m here to lighten your load, give you a break

Go now, your work of much producing and growing is done

Harvest draws nigh

Soon comes the bounty

Now rest from your labors

For Summer, you’re done.”
