Repurpose Vintage Jewelry

We all have tired, old jewelry that we keep in a drawer somewhere, right? This year, I decided to use some of my discarded earrings and bangles, along with my collection of antique buttons, and I turned them into vintage Christmas tree ornaments.

All you need is a glue gun with plenty of glue sticks, your trinkets and baubles, and your imagination! Get together with friends and family, have them bring their used costume jewelry and exchange some of yours with some of theirs. It’s a great way to get together and enjoy your holidays while you make some very personal ornaments for your tree. Best of all, you will create some new memories with your loved ones too!

Mis Manos

I look at my hands
These hands that touched you first as you entered this life
They’re not extraordinary hands
They’ve not designed rocket ships
They’ve not drafted blue prints for a magnificent work of architecture
They’ve not operated on a human heart or brain
They’ve not touched millions of dollars
They’ve not been adorned with the most expensive of gold, silver and precious stones
They’ve not graced the latest fashion magazine covers
But I’ll tell you what they have done:
They have held babies from sun up ’til sun down
Wiped noses , bottoms and toes
Cooked, I can’t remember how many meals
Sewed, I lost track of the stitches and dresses
Disciplined several naughty toddlers
Wiped away, I forgot how many tears
Written so many words
On countless blank pages
Painted using fingers, brushes and knives
On many a canvas
Cleaned up the clutter
Washed all the clothes
And through it all, these hands that first touched you as you made your grand entrance
Into this great ,big world
Will always touch, caress and comfort you
I’ll hold your hand in mine
Together we’ll both learn of the mysteries of this universe.

WARS

APRIL IS NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!!!
Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.www.poets.org/npm/

WARS
Everyone I know is at war
Some with themselves
Some with others
Wars are ensuing all around
Wars of the will
Wars of the aged
Wars of the youth-against an all corrupt machine
Wars of the mind
Battle of wits
Leave you feeling empty
Devoid of feeling
Dejected-rejected
From time immemorial
We’ve been at war
Yes, this little sphere of green and blue
We all call home has known nothing but war:
2 brothers fought
Cain murdered Abel in cold blood
Only because he was jealous
Father against son
Son against father
That was King David’s plight
Then David warred after a wife not his own
Killing a innocent man on account of his lust

I wonder if the earth ever weeps
When all it’s known is war

This group against that one
It all starts out small
Then it’s no longer brother against brother
Soon the conflict turns neighbor against neighbor
Town against town
City against city
Pretty soon it becomes nation against nation
Until it blows up in to a full fledged world war
And what has all this accomplished?
Are we really better off?
Do we have more oil?
Do we have more land?
Do we have more of whatever the hell we went to war for?
Are we richer for it?
Of course not!

Because think of it:
Very seldom does war bring LOVE

Now a days an unborn baby has to war to exist
A young woman conceives
Then she’s cast into an arena of ideas and notions
Demanding she end that precious live God gave her
In ancient Rome people went before hungry lions
When they opposed the status quo
To oppose the status quo of our day-Is to be fed lies by the starving lions
Who seek to kill, steal and destroy

So where are we today?
Are we better off than the old Roman empire?
We may not be viewing their bloody sports in blood drenched arenas
But they’re destroying others who think differently
Who dare to stand alone
Just dare to not conform
Try it one time
You’ll quickly find yourself out in the cold
Alone and ostracized
By the greater majority
Don’t be fooled
Though the ancient blood spattered arenas have long since vanished
Today we have:
Churches
Public schools
Corporations
Hospitals
Don’t conform in those modern day arenas
Voice your unique thoughts
And you’ll end up in the lion’s den
We are at war!
Wars have never stopped
We are at war
When did war usher in true peace?

Think on this:
Very seldom does war bring LOVE

WE ARE LOVE…

Love is not:
Exchanged looks
Exchanged hugs
Exchanged kisses
Stolen Kisses
Hugs that last more than 2 minutes
Long love-making sessions
Quick ones and in between ones
Looking into each other’s eyes while we make love
Whispering your name in your ear as you make me yours
Dirty talk in between the sheets
Sending you random ILY texts
Making your favorite dish
You making me laugh
Cuddling while watching a movie on the couch
Holding each other into the night ’til daylight
None of these , as great as they are, are love because…
WE ARE LOVE
LOVE IS WHO WE ARE!

Tiny Star

This is a story I used to tell my 4 kids when they were little. I finally sat down and wrote it. I hope you enjoy this, a piece of my kid’s childhood. They still remember it and that warms my heart!

Once upon a time there was a tiny star who lived in the sapphire blue midnight skies. She wanted so much to be noticed but she was just a tiny twinkle in the heavens. She would see all the shooting stars flying by her at amazing speeds. She always wondered where they went once they fell out of the heavens, earth-bound,  never to be seen or heard from again. So she asked The North Star, the wisest of all the nova,

” North Star, please tell me how I can be like all those amazing shooting stars that whiz on by me everyday!” The North Star frowned and responded in his deep gentle voice of a caring grandpa,

” Darling, you don’t want to be them. Not all is as it seems.”

Tiny Star frowned and she jumped up and down exclaiming,

” But I DO! It’s what I wanted to be since I was born.” North Star put his arm around her and sat Tiny Star on his ancient lap. He let her get settled and then he answered.

” No, you don’t. For you see, shooting stars are here one day and gone tomorrow. They shoot off in a bang and no one ever sees them again.” Tiny Star was wide-eyed and she said,

” WHAT?? Where do they go?” North Star answered with a chuckle,

” They go nowhere mi amor. They die and can never shine like you will always shine. People don’t remember them like they remember you. People don’t name shooting stars, they name the real, fixed stars like you who form  part of major constellations. Remember that.” Tiny Star was amazed,

” You mean I matter? You mean people know my name?”  North Star answered  her with a calm smile and a wink,

” Of course they do because your name is written in the stars by God‘s own hand.” Tiny Star was never the same after she discovered her true identity and purpose.

THE END!

Fly the Friendly Skies

Have you ever looked up at the sky

There, way up high

Miraculously suspended

The Most amazing of inventions

Held together by nuts and bolts

Painted with pretty logos

Air buses

Taking us here

Taking us there

Taking us everywhere

Tiny windows all in a row

Heads the size of pins looking out

I see you up there

So jealous of you

Looking down at me sitting here

Stuck on the ground with nowhere to go

But you!

You get to fly!

You’ve got your wings

You are free!

I look up at you

Whoever you are

Right now you shine brighter than any ‘ole star

For you have what I desperately want:

Wings to fly

Where are you headed?

Who the hell cares!

At least you’re going somewhere

A funeral?

A wedding?

You just got divorced?

Starting a new life someplace new?

Perhaps you’re headed for college?

Or maybe a long deserved vacation?

Air travel

What a marvelous feat

When I fly

I lose myself in the clouds

Once I wandered into a great white forest

Stayed there for three hours

Another time I played hide and seek with a rainbow

I remember dancing with angels

Careful not to step on their wings

They don’t take too kindly to that

I have ridden on elephant’s backs

And followed the course of my wild imagination

I was six when I first flew

Nothing in life back then made sense

Until I stepped into a jet plane

And there was where I got a clue

That day so long ago

I remember thinking:

Angelic beings were my friends

For the first time in my short life

I felt like a real princess

They served me the food I liked

They gave me nice smiles

They gave me a pillow

Even held my hand when I got scared

I fell in love with the friendly skies

I told the creatures in the clouds:

“I will always come back

So long,

Fare thee well

I’ll return!”

And time after time

Though I wish to fly more often

To the friendly skies

I have kept my word!

Flavorless Salt

Too many people

Think they know too many things

Fact is they only know facts

In the end we know nothing at all

What happens when we fall?

We fall from:

Grace

Our place

A tree

We fall out of:

A window

LOVE

An Airplane

Cars

Hot air balloons

We fall into:

Arms

Beds

Chairs

Water

We fall into:

Despair

When we think things aren’t fair

Then we feel sorry for ourselves

And some one should kick us in the rear

We fall into despair

When a shit we don’t give

And we think no one cares

Then we go molly grubbing

And we stay there a while

Think it’s ok

To not one single fuck give

And let’s never again smile

What we forget is:

To give is to live

Take what’s not yours

And die a little inside

Take and not give

You become full of holes

Like an old sieve

And now life sifts right through you

You’ll have to be thrown out

Like flavorless salt.
