I took this at Saguaro National park in Arizona. It was spring and I never thought I’d find vibrant colors in a desert. My opinion on desert living is that you either love it and stay, or hate it and leave. Surprisingly, the desert grew on me to where I love it now that I’ve been out here 12 years. I have several muses and among them are my 4 extremely photogenic kids. Around my home I call them camera hogs, they don’t mind because it’s true. I long to have a very nice camera one day. For now, I keep using what I have. I am one of those people who is more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. One of my daughters always insists on taking my picture and I let her because she’s right in what she says,” Mama, how are we going to remember you when there are hardly any pictures of your around?” So I sigh and I let her shoot me 🙂 I wish you a happy Sunday!!

When my son turned 12 he received a desert tortoise. One of our neighbors learned of my son’s fascination with such creatures and he gave it to him. A few days later someone stole Snap from our front porch where we kept him. That was a sad day for my son and even though he was a good sport about it he never got over it.
This past Saturday our next door neighbors found a desert tortoise in their front yard and they gave him to my son. I was so happy for him. So todays’ picture is a tribute to our new family member, Chucho.
I enjoy capturing the before and after of things. I took this photo of the Mike O’Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial bridge as it was going up. The next photo is a limited view of the finished project. One freaky thing about this bridge is that when there is a lot of traffic on it, you can feel the bridge sway a little under your feet. I’m not sure if it’s the sensation of being so high up or maybe its all in my head. One thing is certain, when my kids and I go to look at it, we can’t wait to get back down to firm ground.

In December of 2008 a wonderful thing happened…it snowed where I live. I am not a big fan of snow. However, given the fact that I live in the desert, it made the rare weather occurance feel almost magical. Had this happened back in Atlanta where I lived 11 years ago, I wouldn’t have even taken picture. But snow in the desert… brought out the little kid in me. What a day that was! At one point late at night, I went outside and the whole neighborhood resembled something eerie almost like a scene right out of Steven King‘s THE SHINING.
Looking back on this photo reminds me how glad I am to live where I do. Moments like these are few and far in between and that’s how I like snow to be for me.
