Pick yourself up because today is not yesterday. Today is to today so give it all due respect by leaving yesterday behind and stop looking back at yesterday as if it was an old lover; who left you for some one better. But then don’t get so far ahead of yourself that you disregard today because you’re more interested in tomorrow. Don’t cheat today because you’re so in love with tomorrow; a thing that was never promised to any of us. Don’t rob today of all of your time and energy by wasting it on an uncertain future. Today is today so give it all you have. Savor each moment as a person in a desert landscape drinks in the last of his water in his canteen. He doesn’t know if there’s more water coming just like you don’t know the number of your days!

BRAIN STORMING

Today I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed dear readers. I’ve been doing my home work and brain storming on how to get my new book out when it’s released. Salsa! The Taste of Life, is going live shortly and I have a big job ahead of me. They say the “easy” part is writing the book and the toughest job is getting it out there. I invite you to help me brain storm and see what other ideas you could come up with because I believe that when it comes to a lot of things in life, 2 or more heads are better than one 🙂 yes, I do have a publicist who will help me; however I have to get it out HERE where I live so I welcome your thoughts on this! SALSA! The Taste of Life

I was checking the mail today and just guess what I received?  The proof copy for my new book came  to my door! I am speechless and elated and I had to share with you how the book will look. The process is nearing completion folks. I have 30 days to run through my book with a fine tooth comb and weed out any more typos. So far so good; my girls volunteered to lend me their eyes and so we have 4 pairs of eyes looking through it. Do you think we’ll miss anything? I hope not 🙂 Thankfully they all love to read! Oh yes, the ones I still home school will receive school credit for having helped and of course a big hug, kiss and many thanks for their time goes to Elena, Esther and Raxy!!!

 

 

 

 

 

365 Snap Shots of Life: Day 205

I like cats a lot. Dogs are cool but cats DO rule!  When I was a child in and living in Colombia, I have more memories of playing with cats than with dogs. Then I came to the US to live with my uncle he hated cats so all we had were dogs. When I met my husband he was a cat lover and I rediscovered my love of  felines. As I look back, I see that I have written several poems about cats and hardly any about dogs. Hmmmm what does that tell you? 🙂

Today I share with you a poem that you won’t be reading in my new book do out SOON, Salsa! The Taste of Life. I wrote this during a writing session I had with Writing Royalty, my writing group. I hope this makes you smile as you face your Monday!

Madame Fifi

 

I am Madame Fifi;

I stand four feet three.

I live in gay Paris.

I have three cats,

Fiddle, Faddle, and Didi.

 

 

We live in a loft,

where the clouds hang low and soft.

 

 

I go to the opera house,

once or twice per week,

with Frederic Chopin, my pet mouse.

Oh, he’s such a fine gentleman;

I curtsy, and he takes a bow,

and opens the door as we leave our house.

 

 

I wear my mink stole,

in all kinds of weather.

I have several hats also,

one with a beautiful peacock feather.

 

 

I’m so in love,

with wonderful, clever me.

My name fits like a glove.

 

 

I love others as well,

but none love me better

than my cats and pet mouse,

and the old lady that sits at the well.

She is my sister;

we are great friends.

We laugh and get mad;

we tell each other to go to hell.

And through it all,

I know I am loved,

or  my name would not be Fifi.

Reading is fundamental to a good education. Homeschooling allows kids to explore the wonderful world of books on their own and at leisure. I’ve yet to meet a home schooled kid who says they hate reading. On the other hand, I’ve met countless of public school kids that hate reading and they associate reading with school only. I once had a small group of my kid’s friends over at my house and they asked me what I was working on. I told them I was writing my first book and they wanted to know more about it. I had an excerpt of the book printed out and I asked them if they’d like me to read some. There were some takers, and others said,” But this isn’t school.” WOW! that was an eye opener for me back then. I find it amazing that in many homes today, people have more shelves filled with DVDs than with books. I know about the Kindle and all of those devices that can store a gazillion books. However  I still believe nothing beats the feel of holding a book in your hands and turning the pages.   Get ahold of that book you’ve been putting off and read it today!

Technology is simply amazing. I wonder at times what heights technology will reach by the time I have grand children. I have a lot of family I have never met; some are in the USA, others in Colombia, my country of birth.  I really didn’t think I’d ever  meet some of these relatives. That is until recently when I traded in my lap top for a new one with a web cam. When I brought it home my kids were so excited because they informed me that now I’d be able to Skype. I decided right away to Skype my brother whom I have not seen since I was 2 years old. After that I couldn’t stop. Last night I met my niece for the very first time. Another miracle because up to this point I only knew of her by being friends on Facebook. It’s such an amazing feeling to look at someone I’m related to and it’s like they just dropped in for a cup of coffee and a chat. They say technology is shrinking our world and I agree. No longer do I write a letter and snail mail it to Colombia and wonder if the person will ever get it. Now, if I want to, I can chat face to face with the ghosts from the past. Now, that’s the kind of progress I like. So I dedicate this post to my beautiful niece  Johanna…it is so GREAT to finally meet you!
