Get Your Fix!

Music is a drug
The best drug around
It alters your brain
It expands it causing it to travel places far away
What did writers of old do?
Did they write in silence?
Did they hire a whole orchestra
Maybe a single violinist
Putting ear buds on and listening to music is like:
Getting in a car and taking off destination unknown
Music fills an emptiness that words cannot
It’s like getting on a jet plane
Flying in the clouds
Cruising in the land of your dreams
Like boarding a ship
Sailing into an ocean
Of all your mixed up emotions
It’s like suiting up in a space ship
Traveling to another galaxy
To meet your new self.

THE PINCH

America what has happened to you?
Our freedoms are eroding everyday
Vanishing into the midnight air
You think you’re free?
Think again my friend
Ever try to travel while you’re broke?
Ever broke a tooth and you’re too broke to see a dentist?
Ever work your ass off
Only to find yourself sleeping on a cold concrete floor?
Ever stood in a food pantry line
Along with other unemployed Americans
Who can only afford to pay their bills
But not put food on their tables?
Ever had your kids who are of working age
Help you pay the bills?

I came here to the land of dreams
Leaving behind my place of birth
Things are bad there
Always been
Even though I was little
I’d hear the grown folk talk in whispers
Wringing their hands
Pacing to and fro
Worried and anxious

Now I’m here
Been here for most of my life
And it’s looking just as bad as the home land I left
Young people go to college training for jobs that no longer exist
Older folks
Younger folks
Everyone in between is feeling the pinch
Get sick once and you end up in the poor house
I don’t mean to be grim
Even though I too am feeling Uncle Sam’s pinch
I still get up each day
And put a smile on my face
Because life is more than:
Paying bills
Fighting with your ex
Struggling with life’s woes
Life is sweet
Life is sour
Find your sweet spot
Don’t wander from there
That’s your place of power.

A+Student

Taking back her power
A glorious, lovely, breath-taking, inspiring thing
She gave away her power unintentionally
Bit by bit
Never in a flash
She let it erode unknowingly
She sends him a text
Showers him with love through words
He responds through actions
She takes note and adjusts
She is with him
Burning with passion
He acts cool and aloof
And she adjusts again
She learns not to give away all of her power
He teaches her through actions
“Learn to be more selfish with yourself,” he tells her
Thusly she becomes his A+ student…..

CARE LESS

I care less about things that used to bog me down
I didn’t say I don’t care
For that is a lie
When we tell ourselves we don’t care
Our brains wired for positivity only hear
I DO CARE!
So I choose to CARE LESS
I care less about my ex
Who was never a day in his life careful with me
I care less
Of what people think of me, my family or my work
I care less about careless people
I care less about tomorrow
Because I choose to be present NOW
I care less about the past
Because it no longer has a hold on me
I care less about
Trivial, mundane bullshit
I care less about gossip
Who really cares about the Hollywood starlets
And their privileged, boring lives they lead
Certainly not I!

KINGDOMS

WE all have our private little kingdoms
Whose side are you on?
Does your kingdom align with the darkness?
Does your kingdom align with the light?
Is your kingdom ruled by worry, doubt and fear?
Is your kingdom ruled by faith, hope and love?
What does your kingdom repel or attract?
Dark places in our heart
Places where light hasn’t yet reached
What does your story tell?
Whose kingdom child are you?
What’s written on your walls?
Have you left your heart wide open?
Or have you built a moat
‘Round your kingdom
Filled it with alligators
To keep all intruders out
You don’t really fear:
Attackers
Marauders
Intruders
Your worst fears:
Alligators in the moat surrounding your kingdom walls
You always thought me,your:
Attacker
Marauder
Intruder
All I brought you was my light
To touch all of your dark places
All you did was run
To hide behind the total eclipse of your moon
Although you broke my heart
Repeatedly and into so many pieces
It remains untamed still
And it always will
Although you tried to break me
You’re the one falling head long
Out of your strong tower
You’re just about to be devoured
Your alligators await you
With sharp teeth snapping
With jaws widely flapping
I hope you’re praying for a higher kingdom to come
I hope you’re praying to a higher power
Because as you fall head long
From your ivory tower
Your little kingdom you built so long ago
Has no value and no power.

TURN IT OFF AND TUNE IN

Turn off the music
Pull the ear buds out
Shut your phone off
Your iPod can wait
Sit and be still
Listen to nature’s song
Birds are always singing
Tree leaves whisper ancient mysteries
Tree trunks silently testify
Watching you watch them
As you reflect
They reflect back
Trees in my yard
Know what went on in this house
Long before I arrived
Even the warm dirt beneath my feet
Can silently attest to that
16 boulders ’round the olive tree
Some one took their time
To place them there
Was that some one’s sacred altar?
Those stones were placed with care
This place is sacred to me
I come and I:
Ponder
Wonder
Seek
Ask and thank…
I leave my burdens here
I come to be
Man made cathedrals keep true God worshippers out
Nature’s cathedral
Welcomes one and all
Man made cathedrals
Cost a lot of money
Built by the sweat of man’s brow
Nature’s Cathedral
Is free and cost not a single life
Man made cathedrals
As exclusive as a country club
You must conform to be part of their clique
Nature’s cathedral
Expands far beyond what the naked eye can see
Reaching to the ocean
And across the horizon
Covering miles of ground
Reaching into the heavens
To include the Milky Way
And worlds beyond our grasp
Man made cathedrals
Here one day and gone the next
Nature’s cathedral
Was from days gone by
Is now in my back yard
With us still in the up and coming new earth!

FREEDOM IS WHAT I CRAVE

I want freedom
I have some freedom
I want more though
I crave freedom so badly
Making love with my lover
In our own private world
I feel truly free
Nothing else is offering me
Total abandon right now
Only there: Not me with him or him with me but when we’re US- I feel alive
I crave freedom
Like the desert craves rain
Like birds crave flying
Like polar bears crave snow
Like the snow-capped mountains crave sunshine so they can melt
Like coal craves to become a diamond
Like an oyster craves to make a pearl
Like William Wallace craved freedom for his beloved Scotland
Like this pen in my hand
Seeks to search out my heart’s dirt
Helping to pour out its contents
So I can make sense of it
By putting it all into words, sentences and paragraphs
I must keep moving
Freedom is what I crave!

Written In The Sheets

My Bed
My bed sheets
Are the story of my love life with you
When we turn down the sheets together and climb in
We write out our love poem
Our bodies-the plumes
We jot hurriedly
We scribble
We choose our words to match our actions
We decide..together, the rhythm of our song
Some lines are passionate
Some lines are torrid
Some lines are tender
Some lines are down right naughty
Above all else: We’re TRUE
The actions behind our words
Are all deliberate
Everything we do with each other
Is with purpose and intentional-if our bed could talk…
Oh my! It’d speak the story of true love unfolding
Our bed sheets: Where we record our own private love story!

WARS

APRIL IS NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!!!
Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.www.poets.org/npm/

WARS
Everyone I know is at war
Some with themselves
Some with others
Wars are ensuing all around
Wars of the will
Wars of the aged
Wars of the youth-against an all corrupt machine
Wars of the mind
Battle of wits
Leave you feeling empty
Devoid of feeling
Dejected-rejected
From time immemorial
We’ve been at war
Yes, this little sphere of green and blue
We all call home has known nothing but war:
2 brothers fought
Cain murdered Abel in cold blood
Only because he was jealous
Father against son
Son against father
That was King David’s plight
Then David warred after a wife not his own
Killing a innocent man on account of his lust

I wonder if the earth ever weeps
When all it’s known is war

This group against that one
It all starts out small
Then it’s no longer brother against brother
Soon the conflict turns neighbor against neighbor
Town against town
City against city
Pretty soon it becomes nation against nation
Until it blows up in to a full fledged world war
And what has all this accomplished?
Are we really better off?
Do we have more oil?
Do we have more land?
Do we have more of whatever the hell we went to war for?
Are we richer for it?
Of course not!

Because think of it:
Very seldom does war bring LOVE

Now a days an unborn baby has to war to exist
A young woman conceives
Then she’s cast into an arena of ideas and notions
Demanding she end that precious live God gave her
In ancient Rome people went before hungry lions
When they opposed the status quo
To oppose the status quo of our day-Is to be fed lies by the starving lions
Who seek to kill, steal and destroy

So where are we today?
Are we better off than the old Roman empire?
We may not be viewing their bloody sports in blood drenched arenas
But they’re destroying others who think differently
Who dare to stand alone
Just dare to not conform
Try it one time
You’ll quickly find yourself out in the cold
Alone and ostracized
By the greater majority
Don’t be fooled
Though the ancient blood spattered arenas have long since vanished
Today we have:
Churches
Public schools
Corporations
Hospitals
Don’t conform in those modern day arenas
Voice your unique thoughts
And you’ll end up in the lion’s den
We are at war!
Wars have never stopped
We are at war
When did war usher in true peace?

Think on this:
Very seldom does war bring LOVE

MIRACLE MAGNET

I shut the voice of reason up
Telling it to go to hell!
Miracles are chased away by reasoning
I wanna be a miracle magnet
Not a miracle repellant
It’s my choice!

It’s YOUR choice
What are ya gonna do?
Keep reasoning away life’s mysteries-
You’ll never see the glory of a rose in full bloom
The sun rising and setting will elude you
A new born’s scent will not reach your nose to awaken your tender self
A child’s laugh will bypass your hearing and you’ll not be sweet and innocent
Spring time rains will never mist the parched places of your heart

BE A MIRACLE MAGNET!
See the sun rise and setting on a rose’s single petal
A new born’s scent will permeate your being
For you too, came from God’s own throne room
You once came from heaven
And back to heaven is where your heart longs to return
You’ll hear the music that is childhood’s laughter
Your heart will sing the melody right back to you
So arise from your ashes and go forth
The day is fast approaching
When you’ll no longer have a choice
Make up your mind before it’s too late…
