VIVA LAS VEGAS -Elvis Presley

Bright light city gonna set my soul
Gonna set my soul on fire
Got a whole lot of money that’s ready to burn,
So get those stakes up higher
There’s a thousand pretty women waitin’ out there
And they’re all livin’ devil may care
And I’m just the devil with love to spare
Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas

How I wish that there were more
Than the twenty-four hours in the day
‘Cause even if there were forty more
I wouldn’t sleep a minute away
Oh, there’s black jack and poker and the roulette wheel
A fortune won and lost on ev’ry deal
All you need’s a strong heart and a nerve of steel
Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas with you neon flashin’
And your one armbandits crashin’
All those hopes down the drain
Viva Las Vegas turnin’ day into nighttime
Turnin’ night into daytime
If you see it once
You’ll never be the same again

I’m gonna keep on the run
I’m gonna have me some fun
If it costs me my very last dime
If I wind up broke up well
I’ll always remember that I had a swingin’ time
I’m gonna give it ev’rything I’ve got
Lady luck please let the dice stay hot
Let me shout a seven with ev’ry shot
Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas,
Viva, Viva Las Vegas

Euphoria

Once in a while a person comes a long who has raw God given talent, character and heart. No matter what they are called to do in life, they are out to touch the whole world with their gift. They make it look effortless because they love what they do. These kind of people are not motivated by money but by their heart and their love for people. I have seen and been entertained by such an artist and his name is Enrique Iglesias

Enrique’s Euphoria tour  played to a sold out house last night at the Red Rock Casino. I took my 17 year old daughter to her first concert as a birthday present. We had so much fun! Pitbull, the opening act, warmed up the crowd and got us all ready for Enrique.  The evening was perfect; a nice cool October night with a star studded sky.As I looked up at the palm trees that gently swayed in the breeze, I thanked God that my husband had made a dream come true for my daughter and I.

Enrique loves people and it is evident in how he plays to his fans. He pulled two guys out of the crowd and sat down with them  as if he were at home and poured them each a shot. This  showed me that warm hospitality that Spaniards are known for.  Enrique Iglesias also knows that his fans are the ones who make him a star so he dedicated his hit, ” No Me Digas Que No” to us; I felt proud to be Latina and my daughter said she did too as we sang along.

At one point Enrique disappeared for a few minutes and everyone grew quiet. That is until he popped up on a smaller stage just a few feet from our seats; I’ve never cried at a concert and I have to admit, that made my eyes water :) He kept asking his fans, “Who wants to come up here with me?” And at the same time he’d tell the security people,” C’mon now we’re in Vegas, let the people come up here!” That man adores his fans as much as he is loved by them.

I had a pair of binoculars and I saw him up close; toward the end of the night I mentioned to my daughter that he looked completely spent; she said she thought he looked more overwhelmed by all the love from the fans. Which one was it Mr. Iglesias? You decide :)

The best thing that happened to me from going to this concert was that my hope was renewed and I was reminded once again that God gave us things to enjoy in this life. Sometimes life can take its toll on all of us and last night Pitbull and Enrique both reminded me to relax and enjoy the ride. Here’s to you Enrique Iglesias, from a huge fan in Vegas!

Las Vegas: It’s Not Just All Fun and Games

11 years ago when we uprooted ourselves and we moved to Las Vegas, I didn’t know what was in store for us here. Lots of things can happen in a short decade. When we first came out here we knew no one and we had no family cheering our decision to move to “Sin City”. As a matter of fact we heard,” You are being irresponsible, you guys are crazy how can you raise a family in such a “sinful” place,” and other not so great comments from so called ”concerned” relatives from both sides of our extended families. I even was asked this question several times,” Does everyone in Vegas live on The Strip?” Come on now, seriously?

So here we are settled in, we recently purchased a home in lovely Henderson, which is sandwiched between Hoover Dam and Las Vegas and I’m happy to announce to any nay-sayers from our past, that we are doing well and thriving in this place!

Which brings me to discuss the fact that I am proud to announce that Las Vegas has more culture than it gets credit for. I simply adore The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company. Last year they did  Shakespeare in the Park; being that Henderson is filled with wonderful parks, LVSC uses these parks to put on live performances of a Shakespeare play once per year. So this fall’s treat, starting this week end is, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM and I am so excited! This company knows Shakespeare and I am happy that my girls have joined such a dedicated group of talented professionals to work with.

So, if you live in my area head on out this Saturday, October 1st at 7:00 pm to Sonata Park. Then on the 8th it will play in Discovery Park. On the  15th it will be at Lake Las Vegas, and the grand finale will be at River Mountain Park on the 22nd. All performances are free of charge and begin at 7:00pm. So bring a blanket, snacks and experience Shakespeare live because I’m quite sure Shakespeare would be proud with these talented professionals that make up LVSC. See you there!!
